Loukas Hapsis was born in 1966 in Lemnos where he grew up. At the age of 20 he acquired his first camera, aiming to capture his mountaineering achievements. Since then, photography has become his great love and personal expression. He studied cinema but eventually photography won him over. He began his professional career in 1993, photographing for Liberis publications. His work includes more than 3,000 covers and many Greek magazines have shaped their aesthetics in his personal studio at Kaisariani. The multi-dimensional talent of Loukas Hapsis unfolds in –seemingly– opposing poles of photography, such as artistic, travel, scientific, underwater, fashion, editorial, commercial, etc. Another interesting aspect of his work is nature photo on which he has been working over a long period of time, forming a rich and multifarious archive. The ecological dimension unfolds through the most contradictory and unexpected environments and ecosystems, from the North Pole to the Antarctica and from the Himalayas to the Easter Island. And with international commercial appeal, since the photographs of Loukas Hapsis are distributed by renown photo databases.
Having gained recognition among the important Greek photographers of his generation, he decided to find his own place in the constellation of astrophotography. Since 1995 he has been pursuing solar eclipses in every corner of the globe. Milestones of his photographic journey are the two great exhibitions “Time Observers” and “Temples in the Shape of Heaven”.
